The star system to the left is called Eta Carinae. It is at least two stars who have rubbed against each other in an implosive and explosive way. I found these stars when looking up a visual representation through google images of abundance and scarcity. These stars have an abundance of some elements and a scarcity of others. Together, they represent one of the brightest stars in the sky... sometimes. This bright star in our sky looks like one star from far away, but is actually two (or more!) individuals stars which are merging at the same time and yet also appear to the novice eye to maybe be splitting apart. When the experts found the right lens to see even more details, they found two or maybe even three stars dancing together! At the micro level, this also reminds me of cellular mitosis, where cells split apart from one into two. The photo to the right is of an onion cell splitting apart. Without a microscope, it just looks like one "thing," an onion in this case (or a star in the example above) and yet when we zoom in, we see that it is many things growing into many more. Both the micro and macro appear to be two and one at the same time. So what does that mean about abundance and scarcity? Scarcity means “not enough” and is a mindset that happens when we are trying to survive because we are overwhelmed and/or fearful. Abundance, on the other hand, means “MORE than enough!” and often means that we are beyond satisfied or conversely, experiencing a different kind of overwhelm. For example, when I moved from a house to an apartment, I had more than enough furniture, and initially found this abundance overwhelming and uncomfortable until I was able to let go of some of the now extra furniture. Now here’s the most important part: Living a life of finding the “enough” between the “too little” and “too much” is something that is never really achieved and can always be practiced. The DOT (Deepen. Orient. Transform) Model is about finding the sweet spot between these two extremes by figuring them both in.When we simplify these two polarities down to what they have in common, we get “enough.” For example, have you ever failed at something you were trying to accomplish? It hurts, right? What did you tell yourself about what happened there? Sometimes failure can seem like one is falling down the cracks of solid ground into a fault finding expedition. What about when you succeed? Do you feel like a winner? Completely victorious like a hero standing on the top of a mountain? Here’s a hint, both are and are not the truth of you. You are Human. Figure it in is about remembering the human between both extremes as the opportunity, instead of the excuse. Check out this short simulation on how these stars theoretically found and made relationship together.
