Once Upon a Time......

In a land called Abundant there lived a human girl. She loved the colors around her, and changed each moment as they grew. But alas, her mission of completing a psychology degree called her far away from the colors, to a dry desert of shadows that she feared would split her apart.
The roads she took, led her deep into faults, and valleys, and caves, through the darkness of all. Scarcity abounded, in a scared city afar, and when the human girl arrived, she vaulted her heart. "I'll protect it, you see, they can't break me." and the girl tried to practice impartiality. But again, the winds changed, the frozen rain came, and each day the girl felt a bit more cold and deranged. The world felt darker, the lighter farther away. The girl wandered in fear, shrinking in shame. "I thought it was them, so primitive and biased, but the more I am here, the more I am like them." She shuddered in terror, as memories rushed in, "maybe they aren't what I hate, and instead I'm the mistake!" Black and white, the world became, the good was gone, the bad was blamed. "A dream!" she thought, so bitterly, "my delusions of peace and prosperity." "Trusting is false, a fools errand for sure." The girl learned to stay silent as she watched others hurt, and crack-by-crack, the girl turned curt. In the practice of blaming she sank very deep, and less and less often, wondered, "am I still awake?" In spare moments of quiet, between the business, the girl wished for different because her heart missed....the colors, and dew drops, and connections between. But then the cold in her heart muddied her being. "It's buried safe" she thought, convincing herself, when I leave here someday, I won't complain." Eventually, the girl you see, lost her voice completely, and forgot how to sing. Making a bond: Dancing was evil because pleasure was lust, and joy was an illusion of those called feeble. Her body an object, to control and contain. Her heart began sinking and her health shrinking. So many patients, and so little time, the girl became sicker, and started to whine. "I'm cursed!" she moaned, despondently, and with a tightening breath, went her curiosity. .... How does the story end? |
